2. day - 08/02/2007 - Thursday

After the long day yesterday we needed some relaxation in the morning. In the afternoon we went for a shopping with Zsuzsa to Colón. We plan to spend the next couple of days at San Blas until we cross the Panama Canal. The agent believes that we have to arrive back on the 15th February to proceed. During we were shopping Laci took care about the boat in the harbour.
A cab driver took us wherever we wanted to go. He came with us even to the sellers to make some protection against thieves. The police stopped us and they told that we should not shop around at the market, as it was very dangerous for tourists. We did not feel so dangerous the situation, however we tried to follow the cab driver as close as we could. We also went to the El Rey supermarket, where we found everything.
Late afternoon we checked out from the harbour on VHF and left our anchoring place. We let a big carrier to go before us and we followed it for a while. We anchored next to the Orange Islands for the evening (1,5 hours from Colón). We have seen fireworks from Colón during we were swimming in the bay.

3. day - 09/02/2007 - Friday

In the morning we were navigating among the huge vessels that entered in and out the Panama Canal. We had a good wind with small waves therefore we sailed pretty fast with it. Getting far from the Canal these vessels were disappeared so we wondered the beautiful hills of the main land and islands.
We arrived at Portobelo and planned to anchor before a fort. We found here a sailing boat with a Hungarian flag on it, but nobody was on board. The boat name was Attila. Attila was the king of the Huns (historical).
We planned to do some swimming then climb the fort and finally go into the city.
There were couple of jellyfish in the water but nobody was hurt. After it we climbed the fort.

Columbus called this bay Puerto Bello (Beautiful Port) in 1502. The city importance rose in 1597 when the annual meeting of colonial merchants with the fleet from Spain moved here. There are all together 4 forts around the city. The ruins of the largest rock supplied material for the construction of a breakwater during the Panama Canal project. We visited the Fort of San Fernando, which was built in 1670. We climbed up to the top, where we heard Hungarian words from a dinghy from the bay. The Hungarians were on board, so went to visit them. A young couple from Hungary welcomed us on their board and they told us their story with the company of some rum. After it the party was continued on Rotor with a Hungarian speciality of Zsuzsi. The world is so small...

5. day - 11/02/2007 - Sunday

We were swimming a bit then we left our anchoring place. We planned a 3 hours sailing to get to the Hollandes Cays. We passed some beautiful islands on the way very closely so we could wonder the colours of the sea and the anchoring sailing boats. There were not any other sign of the civilization except for the Kunas and sailing vessels.
When we arrived to the Hollandes we stared to call the boats we knew around us. The couple from sailing vessel Sofia arrived on board and we gave them the goods we had already been purchased for them in Colón.
We called also Do It and Aliana, as they were at San Blas at the same time we were. We organised some snorkelling with them for the next day.
